Durkan asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of persons currently in employment in the manufacturing and service sectors; the extent to which these figures have fluctuated in the past six years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Government policy on the promotion of employment is a matter for the Minister for Business Enterprise and Innovation and is set out in the Action Plan for Jobs.

According to the Central Statistics Office, the average annual level of employment for recent years in the sectors referred to is as set out in tabular form below.
