495. Deputy Joe Carey asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of applicants for domiciliary care allowance in 2015 and 2016; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [51689/17]
View answerDomiciliary care allowance is a payment made in respect of children under the age of 16 who have a severe disability that requires care and attention substantially in excess of another child of the same age without that disability. The need for the additional care and attention must be likely to last for at least 12 months. In 2015 a total of 6,422 applications for domiciliary care allowance were received by the Department, in 2016 that number of applications received increased to 7,434.
