666. Deputy Michael McGrath asked the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government the amount provided to local authorities in each year since 2010 by way of the annual block grant from the local government fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3368/18]
View answerI assume the Question refers to the payment of General Purpose Grants (GPGs) and Local Property Tax (LPT) from the Local Government Fund to local authorities. Before the introduction of local retention of LPT in 2015, GPGs were my Department’s contribution towards meeting the cost to local authorities of providing a reasonable level of services to their customers. The 2014 figures recognise the removal of water related costs and are therefore not directly comparable to previous years’ funding. In 2015 GPGs were replaced by LPT payments.
