113. Deputy Imelda Munster asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of court dates rescheduled in each of the years the years 2015 to 2017 due to not having representation from free legal aid. [8854/18]
View answerAs the Deputy will be aware, under the provisions of the Courts Service Act 1998, the Courts Service is responsible for the management and administration of the Courts. The Court Service is not involved in the administration of justice which is a matter for the courts and the judiciary, who are subject only to the Constitution and the law, independent in the exercise of their judicial functions. The conduct of and decisions made in any court case is a matter entirely for the presiding judge and it is not open to the Courts Service to comment or intervene in any way in such matters.
However in order to be of assistance to the Deputy enquiries have been made and the Courts Service has informed me that statistics are not compiled in such a way as to provide the information requested by the Deputy.
