The Government is committed to providing services and supports for people with disabilities which will empower them to live independent lives, provide greater independence in accessing the services they choose, and enhance their ability to tailor the supports required to meet their needs and plan their lives.  This commitment is outlined in the Programme for Partnership Government, which is guided by two principles: equality of opportunity and improving the quality of life for people with disabilities.

Under the Health Act 2004, responsibility for the management and delivery of health and personal social services rests with the Health Service Executive(HSE). The decision to publish a Social Care Operational Plan for 2018 is a service matter for the HSE. I have asked the Executive to update me on the current status of this Operational Plan and I will reply directly to the Deputy as soon as I receive this information.
