Questions (1117)

Bernard Durkan

Question:

1117. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the extent to which his Department has continued to evaluate rural transport requirements with a view to bringing transport to the population rather than forcing the population to converge on towns and villages as the population increases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of public transport services in rural areas, including the operation of the Rural Transport Programme, is a matter for the National Transport Authority (NTA) and I have forwarded the Deputy’s question to the NTA for direct reply. I ask him to advise my private office if he does not receive a response within 10 working days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Order 42A.
