1584. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Health the estimated full-year cost of removing the prescription charge for medical card holders; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [33504/18]

The total amount of prescription charges collected in 2017 was €105.2m. Following the reduction of the prescription charge to €2 on 1 January 2018, approximately €48m was collected in the first six months of this year. If current trends continue, it is estimated that the full year amount collected would be in the region of €96m.
