Deputy Pearse Doherty asked the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the number of firearms owned by the National Parks and Wildlife Service by each of the organisation's eight regions and if each such weapon is registered to the NPWS, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will appreciate, given the particular security considerations attached to firearms, the Department does not publish any details concerning the number of firearms held or their locations. Holding of firearms within the NPWS is in accordance with current Garda requirements.
