Deputy Darragh O'Brien asked the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government if he has the statutory powers or discretion to grant professional accreditation to an architect who is not registered with an organisation (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. Section 13 of the Building Control Act 2007 provides that the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, RIAI, is the registration body for the registration of architects in the State. They have sole statutory responsibility for administering the register.
The Act provides for a number of routes to registration as an architect. Section 14 of the Act provides that membership of the registration body, RIAI, is not a prerequisite for registration in the register.
