View answerAs Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding of public transport. The operation and provision of services on the rail network are matters for Iarnród Éireann, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority. The safe operation of the rail network and services is the priority of both the company and the Commission for Railway Regulation, which is the independent, statutory body charged with overseeing safety on the railway.
In view of Iarnród Éireann's responsibility in the matter, I have forwarded the Deputy's question to the company for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within 10 working days.
