287. Deputy Jim O'Callaghan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality his plans to update the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Acts 1994 to 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [42135/19]
View answerThe main purpose of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Acts 1994 to 2003 is to provide An Garda Síochána with additional powers to deal with the behaviour of people in public places, including late night street violence and anti-social conduct attributable to excessive drinking, and to provide for various controls to be exercised at public events.
While the Public Order Acts are kept under continual review, I have no plans at present to update the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Acts 1994 to 2003.
