157. Deputy Thomas Byrne asked the Minister for Education and Skills the number of fitness to teach complaints received to date in 2019. [47220/19]
View answerThe fitness to teach provisions of the Teaching Council Acts 2001-2015 were commenced on 25 July 2016. Any person, including a member of the public, an employer or a teacher is able to make a complaint to the Teaching Council about a registered teacher. Complaints are possible under a number of headings, including professional misconduct or poor professional performance.
The Deputy will appreciate that the fitness to teach process is independent of my Department and he should contact the Council directly for information on the number of complaints received.
