Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade the procedures and-or protocols that were in place prior to the enactment of GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 for public authorities and An Garda Síochána to gain access to the information in the Passport Office data sets; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Prior to the introduction of the Data Protection Act 2018, the Passport Service complied with the Data Protection Acts 1988 to 2018.

Under the Data Protection Acts 1988 to 2018, the Passport Service shared data as requested by An Garda Síochána and other authorities under Section 8 of the Data Protection Act 1988 as amended by the Data Protection Act 2003.
