View answerArdfert Friary is a National Monument in the ownership of the State. It is located near Ardfert Cathedral which is opened to visitors on a seasonal basis by the Office of Public Works. There are no visitor facilities at the Friary site and, as the access route to the site is not in the sole ownership of the State, public access cannot always be assured.
The Office of Public Works has no information as to why the proposal regarding the development of a carpark at Ardfert Friary did not proceed and there are no plans currently to install such a facility at the site.
