I propose to take Questions Nos. 943 and 944 together.

Tá sé de fhreagracht ar an comhlacht farantóireachta cinntiú i gcónaí go bhfuil sé sábháilte taisteal ón mórthír go dtí an oileán agus ar ais. Caithfear sábháilteacht na paisinéirí agus criú a bheith chun cinn ar gach rud eile.

Ó am go chéile, is gá cinneadh a ghlacadh leasú a dhéanamh ar an amchlár atá leaghta síos de bharr aimsir nó cúrsaí taoide. Nuair a dhéantar é seo téann an comhlacht i dteagmáil le muintir an phobail le é seo a chuir in iúil dóibh.

I 2019 bhí moill ar sheoltaí ar 32 lá agus i 2020 bhí moill ar sheoltaí ar lá amháin. I 2019 níor sheol an ‘Queen of Aran’ ar 53 lá, de bharr droch aimsir.

I 2020 níor sheol an 'Queen of Aran' ar 62 lá de bharr droch aimsir.

Covid-19 Pandemic

Questions (945)

Seán Sherlock

Question:

945. Deputy Sean Sherlock asked the Minister for Rural and Community Development the budgetary analysis being carried out to plan for long Covid-19 impacts in her Department and each State agency under the remit of her Department in tabular form. [4493/21]

My Department has contributed to the wider Government response to the Covid-19 pandemic in a number of ways, including; contributing to the co-ordination of the community and voluntary response; grant funding for charities, community and voluntary groups and social enterprises through the Covid Stability Fund (which was funded through the dormant accounts fund), and additional supports for community groups through the community enhancement programme to enable them to continue to function effectively in this new environment.

We will continue to ensure we proactively use our resources to ensure they are used efficiently and effectively to support the overall response, for example, this year will see €5m invested to support remote working capability, through the expansion of a hub network model into a national initiative. This is a direct response to the increase demand and need for remote working capability for all citizens. Given the remit of the Department I do not expect the impacts of long Covid-19 to be significant in terms of the work of my Department and its agencies, however, all significant developments with regard to this pandemic will continue to feed into future decisions on utilization of resources.

The Department of Rural and Community Development was established on 19th July 2017 to provide a renewed and consolidated focus on rural and community development in Ireland.

My Department is strongly committed to the development and implementation of measures to promote and support the employment of individuals with disabilities. The Department supports the best practice principles in this area, as set out in the 'Code of Practice for the employment of people with disability in the Civil Service'.

The Department has a Disability Liaison Officer (DLO) in place whose role is to assist and support staff with disabilities and their line managers by the provision of necessary information, appropriate contacts, guidance, suggestions and advice. The DLO also plays an important role in promoting awareness about disability across the department.

Table A outlines the number and percentage of staff in the Department of Rural and Community Development who declared a disability in 2017, 2018 and 2019:

Table A:

Percentage of Employees who Declared a Disability

2017

8

7%

2018

8

5.3%

2019

6.5%

In relation to staff who declared a disability and who are working on a part-time or full-time basis the Department cannot provide this information, as responses to the survey are anonymous.

The Department will complete its 2020 returns in early 2021, and its return to the NDA by the deadline of 30th June 2021, and so those statistics are not available at this stage.

There has been no specific funding profiled or allocated within my Department for a Covid-19 Communications Strategy. However, my Department has contributed to the overall Government Covid-19 Communications Strategy since the beginning of the pandemic.

I have also assigned resources within my own Department to develop content, guidelines, and supports for communities as well as to arrange for information dissemination through our large networks of community and voluntary contacts. This has ensured that Government messaging and information relating to Covid-19 has been channeled directly to communities.
