View answerThe Deputy will be aware that, in accordance with the Garda Síochána Act 2005, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána and is by law the Accounting Officer for the Garda Vote. This role includes responsibility for expenditure within the organisation and, as Minister, I have no direct role in these matters.
An Garda Síochána have provided the below table detailing the amount spent on external legal services by An Garda Síochána in 2014, 2019 and 2020 in tabular form, as requested by the Deputy.
