689. Deputy Sorca Clarke asked the Minister for Defence if he has engaged with an organisation (details supplied) regarding the cross-border healthcare initiative which is due to finish in December 2021; his plans to address this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30849/21]
View answerThe PDFORRA Medical Assistance Scheme (PMAS) is provided by PDFORRA to its members and does not involve my Department. It should be noted that a comprehensive range of primary and secondary medical care is provided, at no charge, to all members of the Permanent Defence Forces. In addition, the Programme for Government 2020 includes a commitment to "ensure that all enlisted members of the Defence Forces have the same access to health care as officers currently do". A joint civil-military working group has been established to examine this matter and work is currently being progressed.
