Deputy Catherine Connolly asked the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications the status of the development of the support scheme for small-scale generators above 50kW but smaller than those supported by the renewable electricity support scheme; when the public consultation will be opened; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe Climate Action Plan 2021 commits to the development of a support scheme for small-scale generators above 50kW to support the deployment of rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV in cohorts that are not as suited to other support measures, such as the Micro-generation Support Scheme (MSS) and the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS).
This new scheme will enable farmers, auto-generators and communities to maximise their participation in the energy transition. The design of the scheme is being progressed and it is expected to become available in 2023.
A public consultation on proposed design elements of the scheme is expected to open in the coming months. These proposals will be informed by a report on policy options to support the uptake of small-scale generation in Ireland, which has been commissioned by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and will be published alongside the consultation.
