350. Deputy Sean Sherlock asked the Minister for Social Protection the estimated cost of increasing the qualified child payment for children aged under 12 years by €5 or €7, and for those aged over 12 years by €10 or €12; the current number of eligible children in each category; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The estimated cost of increasing the qualified child payment for under 12's by €5 is €52.2m, and by €7 is €73.1m. The estimated cost of increasing the qualified child payment for over 12's by €10 is €58.0m, and by €12 is €69.6m. The current estimated number of children in the under 12 age category is 234,250, and the current number of children in the 12 and over age category is 129,736.

These costings are based on the estimated number of recipients in 2022 and are subject to change in the context of emerging trends and associated revision of the estimated numbers of recipients.
