236. Deputy Louise O'Reilly asked the Minister for Finance if the NTMA, or the State in general, has any exposure to, or investments in crypto-assets; the safeguards that are in place to prevent such exposures; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [59371/22]
View answerThe Central Bank of Ireland has confirmed to me that it has no exposure to, or investments in, crypto-assets. Crypto-assets are not an approved asset class under the Central Bank’s investment framework. The Central Bank has an extensive financial risk management framework and robust governance structures in place for the approval of new asset classes. Strong internal controls ensure all investments are compliant with the Bank’s approved investment framework. The NTMA has also confirmed to me that it does not have any exposure to, or investments in, crypto-assets.
