38. Deputy Cian O'Callaghan asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage the number of change of use planning applications for short-term lets received by each local authority since the beginning of 2019; and the number of these that were granted permission in tabular form. Legislative reforms to regulate the short-term letting sector through the planning code, in areas designated as “rent pressure zones” (RPZs), were introduced under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (Exempted Development) (No. 2) Regulations 2019 which came into effect on 1 July 2019.

The information requested in relation to the number of planning applications received and granted for change of use to short term letting from 2019 to end Q3 2022 is provided in the table below. It should be noted that figures for Cork County Council in relation to Q2 and Q3 of 2022 are not yet available.
