View answerThe delivery of public library services, including the matter of library membership, is a matter for each local authority in accordance with the Local Government Act, 2001. Accordingly, my department provides no guidance to local authorities in relation to public library membership.
The public library is a trusted place at the centre of the community, offering a free service for all with access to communal spaces, services and resources.
