Deputy Joan Collins asked the Minister for Education the reason there is such a delay in granting the go ahead of the new build for a school (details supplied) in view that it is now 14 weeks since the school submitted a request to progress the build; and if she will meet with the principal as soon as possible so this new build can go ahead. I propose to take Questions Nos. 101 and 120 together.
The school building project to which the Deputy refers is included in my Department's Large Scale Capital Programme, The scope of work is to provide 16 classrooms, 10 SET rooms, GP room, a 2 CR SEN base and all ancillary accommodation.
The project is currently at Stage 3 - Tender Action and Award. A Stage 3 Tender Report identifying a recommended bidder is with my Department for review.
Works are estimated to take 22 months to complete.
