Jackie Cahill

Question:

104. Deputy Jackie Cahill asked the Minister for Education when her Department is going to make a decision on the application for a temporary classroom structure for a school (details supplied) considering that the school needs to be informed whether it is to purchase or rent the temporary accommodation unit before it can proceed with this project, and if this decision is not made soon, the accommodation will not be in place for the coming academic year; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The school referred to by the Deputy was approved a project under the Department’s Additional Accommodation (ASA) Scheme which provided for the one Mainstream Classroom. The delivery of the project was devolved to the school authority and earlier this year, the project was approved to proceed to planning stage. As an interim measure, the school were also approved to tender for modular accommodation under the ASA Scheme pending delivery of the permanent build. The Tender Report in respect of this modular accommodation was received by the Department and is currently being assessed in the context of the priorities for the coming school year. My Department is engaging with the school authority on the outcome of this review including the appropriate procurement process.
