View answerMetaldehyde is currently approved at EU level, as an active substance for use in plant protection products. Whilst the approval was due to expire on 31 May 2023, European Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/918 extended this approval to 31 August 2026. This extension was agreed by the EU Member States to allow Poland, the rapporteur Member State, finalise its risk assessment on the substance.
Following completion of the risk assessment and subsequent peer review by the European Food Safety Authority and the Member States, a decision will be taken on the renewal of the approval of the active substance beyond 31 August 2026.
