Written answers

The raw data referred to by the Deputy are collected by An Garda Siochana and therefore outside the remit of my Department. Furthermore, the compilation of road safety statistics, from data provided by An Garda Siochana, is the responsibility of the Road Safety Authority (RSA).

In order to comply with GDPR requirements, I am informed that An Garda Siochana has been reviewing its procedures in relation to the sharing of collision data with the RSA. Consultation with key stakeholders including both departments, the RSA, and the Data Protection Commissioner is an on-going deliberative process.  Consideration of sharing the data with the research community cannot be considered until this review is completed, however it is expected to be finalised in the coming months.
