The National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for training and research in bioprocessing, located on the campus of University College Dublin. This facility replicates a modern bioprocessing plant, with state-of-the-art equipment, and undertakes cutting-edge research in key areas of biopharmaceutical manufacturing and provision of highly specialised industry relevant training for the development and manufacture of biologics.

The new Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) facility, officially launched in September 2022, will build NIBRT’s capability in advanced therapeutics and strengthen Ireland’s capacity to attract and support companies in new cell therapeutics areas.

€9m was allocated to the CGT NIBRT facility in 2023 and €4.3m has been paid to date this year. In addition, €5.2m has also been paid this year in respect of capital and RD&I grants approved in 2018 as part of NIBRT’s 5-year strategy.
