Deputy John Paul Phelan asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to state whether his Department centrally monitors the number of tenants of local authorities or approved housing bodies who are in arrears of rent, and the total amount due in arrears; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not hold information in relation to the numbers of tenants of local authorities and Approved Housing Bodies who are in rent arrears. This information may be sought from the local authorities and Approved Housing Bodies directly.

Details of the total rent collected by local authorities and the levels of arrears are contained in the annual local authority Audit Reports prepared by the Local Government Audit Service and published by my Department. The 2022 Audit Reports have not yet been published and the most recent reports, for 2021, can be found at the following link:
