Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for Justice the number of drivers listed in court for holding a mobile phone while driving by District Court in 2021, 2022 and to date in 2023 which resulted in the case being struck out or dismissed due to the driver making a contribution to the court poor box; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerManagement of the courts, along with related operational matters and logistical functions, are the responsibility of the judiciary and Courts Service, which are independent in exercising their functions under the Courts Service Act 1998 and through the separation of powers in the Constitution.
