Deputy Mairéad Farrell asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide the policy in relation to allocating social housing with additional rooms to families who have children with additional needs, i.e., if an OT recommended a child to have access to a sensory room in their home; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe initiation, design and development of the types of housing that are required by all housing applicants is a matter for individual local authorities in exercise of their functions as housing authorities. The Housing Need and Demand Assessment (HNDA) being undertaken in each local authority area (as development plans come up for statutory review) is in place to ensure that the long-term strategic housing needs, such as those of disabled people, are identified in an evidence-based targeted and responsive way to meet the actual needs arising.
The assessment of applications for housing support, including medical priority, is also a matter for individual local authorities in accordance with their allocation schemes. I have no function in relation to these applications.
