Deputy Jackie Cahill asked the Minister for Justice how many Garda recruits who passed through the Garda College, Templemore, County Tipperary, in each of the years 2013 and 2023 successfully achieved Water Safety Ireland’s Rescue Level 2, which relates to contact safety and rescue in water, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerAs the Deputy can appreciate, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána. This includes the training of Garda members and recruits. As Minister, I have no role in this matter.
I have been informed by the Garda authorities that, currently, only Level 1 training is provided to trainees. As such, there have been zero Rescue Level 2 courses held in the Garda College during the years requested.
