Deputy Seán Haughey asked the Minister for Justice if, having regard to the provisions of the EU treaties, any non-Irish EU, EEA or Swiss citizens living in Ireland have been expelled on the grounds of public policy, public security or public health; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerI can advise the Deputy that deportation and removal processes are an essential part of any immigration system. It must be acknowledged that those who do not have a legal right to remain in this country must remove themselves from the State.
Under Section 20(b) of the European Communities (Freedom of Movement of Persons) Regulations 2015, the Minster may make a removal order in respect of a person, who is a citizen of an EU member state and who represents a danger for public policy or public security.
Since 2018, 266 people have been removed from the State under this process.
