Business Regulation
215. Deputy Paula Butterly asked the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment if he will provide an update on when definitive clarification and guidance will be issued to the Irish steel sector regarding the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), including the expected structure of pricing/tariffs, and quota arrangements; if he will address concerns that steel suppliers may be in a position to procure steel through Northern Ireland or other jurisdictions not covered, or not yet effectively captured, by CBAM requirements, which could significantly undermine the competitiveness of compliant Irish steel manufacturers and processors; the measures his Department intends to take to ensure competitive equity and protect domestic industry during the transition to full CBAM implementation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
