Oireachtas Health and Children Committee to Visit Ireland First Children’s Hospice

27 Jul 2011, 13:55

27th July 2011 Members of the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children will visit Ireland's first purpose built Children’s hospice tomorrow (28th).

The Committee has been invited to tour the new LauraLynn House at the Children’s Sunshine Home in Foxrock, Co Dublin. The facility is Ireland’s first Children’s Hospice and is due to open later this year.

Committee Members will meet with the staff and children to see at first hand the work which is goes on. They will receive a tour of the new children’s hospice and receive an update on its progress.

This visit is not open to the media, but Committee members will be available for comment after the visit.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said;
“When we established the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children we were determined that the cause of children would be a top priority. We are looking forward to our visit tomorrow to get a real insight into the amazing work of the Children’s Sunshine Home and to view the premises for Ireland’s first children’s hospice.”

The Children's Sunshine Home supports children with life limiting conditions and their families by providing high quality transitional care, home support, respite, crisis and end-of-life care. Its services are available to children with high medical and nursing needs from birth to 18.

The Children’s Sunshine Home Hospice Project and The Laura Lynn Foundation came together in 2006 to realise their shared vision and bring comfort and support to families in Ireland. It aims to enhance respite and end-of-life services to children with life-limiting conditions.
