Transport, Tourism and Sport Committee to discuss Brexit impact on all-Ireland tourism

6 Nov 2018, 15:28

The Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport will discuss the potential impact of Brexit on tourism with leaders of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

The meeting at 10:30 a.m. in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live here and on Android and Apple devices using the Houses of the Oireachtas app.

Scheduled witnesses include

  • Fáilte Ireland Chief Executive Paul Kelly and
  • Tourism Ireland Chief Executive Niall Gibbons.

“Tourism on an all-Ireland basis has grown by leaps and bounds over the past two decades driven by the achievement of peace in Northern Ireland and our common EU membership. When travellers come today to Ireland, an itinerary with border crossings poses no barrier at all,” said Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd TD.

“Brexit of course threatens to complicate all-Ireland commerce. The Committee looks forward to discussing the strategies taking shape in two of Ireland’s leading tourism promotion bodies to cope with this imminent challenge,” Deputy O’Dowd said.
