Coiste Ghaelcholáiste Bhaile Munna will appear before the Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands tomorrow, Tuesday, when it meets to discuss its proposal for the Ballymun area.
The meeting will start at 4pm in Committee Room 4, Leinster House.
Coiste Ghaelcholáiste Bhaile Munna is an independent committee whose main aim it is to set up an Irish-speaking post-primary school in the Ballymun area. The purpose would be to have a secondary school which would feed off the existing all-Irish primary schools across north Dublin.
It is will be multidenominational and co-educational and will concentrate on technology, sport and culture (including art, music and drama). The proposed location is Ballymun which is easy access for the existing seven all-Irish primary schools in the area (Coolock, Ballymun, Finglas, Glasnevin, Cabra and Blanchardstown).
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Catherine Connolly TD, said, “The Committee welcomes the opportunity to hear from Coiste Ghaelcholáiste Bhaile Munna regarding its proposal for an Irish-speaking post-primary school in North Dublin.”
Deputy Connolly added: “Committee Members will be particularly interested to hear how the organisation is working hard to promote greater use of the Irish language in a part of Dublin with potentially a big catchment area in terms of pupil numbers, and population.”
