Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach to resume pre-legislative scrutiny of General Scheme of Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Bill 2021

5 Oct 2021, 16:00

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 6 October, to resume pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Bill 2021.

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will discuss the Heads of the Bill with officials from the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER).

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy John McGuinness said: “This Bill proposes to transpose into Irish law the EU Whistleblowing Directive by amending the existing Protected Disclosures Act, while also updating the legislation to bring more individuals and private sector organisations under the scope of the Act, in a similar manner to the public sector. We have previously heard the views of whistleblowers and other key stakeholders and the Committee now looks forward to discussing the Heads of the Bill with officials from DPER.”

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform and Taoiseach has 13 Members, nine from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
