Joint Committee on Health to discuss hospital overcrowding

8 Mar 2022, 14:00

The Joint Committee on Health will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 9 March to discuss the ongoing overcrowding crisis in the hospitals at 9:30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The Committee will hear from representatives from:

·       The Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation (INMO)

·       The Services Industrial Professional & Technical Union (SIPTU)

·       Fórsa

·       Irish Medical Organisation (IMO)

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Seán Crowe said: “The overcrowding in our hospitals, combined with crisis level waiting lists, is one of the greatest challenges facing not only the health service, but the state. It affects all age groups, all sectors of society. We need to hear from those on the frontline and how they would deal with the problems affecting our health service.

Tomorrow’s meeting represents such an opportunity and I welcome the appearance of these medical professionals and their unions before the Health Committee.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices
