Committee to discuss recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality regarding Care and Social Protection

The Joint Committee on Gender Equality will meet on Thursday June 16th to resume its discussion on the report of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality.

The Committee will discuss recommendations 4-19 of the Citizens’ Assembly report regarding Care and Social Protection.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House between 09:00-12:00.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Ivana Bacik said: “We look forward to resuming our discussion on the recommendations of the Citizens Assembly report regarding care and social protection with representatives from organisations for those who care for others and Professor Lynch."

“This is a timely opportunity to have this discussion as it is National Carers Week which seeks to raise awareness for family carers.”

“Among the recommendations of the Citizens' Assembly report that we expect to discuss include reform of the Carer's Allowance, dealing with the direct and indirect costs of caring and disability and the reform of respite services.”
