Joint Committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsmen to meet with European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 23 March, at 1.30pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House with European Ombudsman Ms Emily O’Reilly.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Martin Browne said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to meet with Ms O’Reilly to discuss the 2020 EU Ombudsman Strategy entitled ‘Towards 2024’ Sustaining Impact, the European Ombudsman Annual Report 2021, and the latest public consultation on transparency in EU environmental decision making and other related matters.

“Members will also discuss petitions seeking ‘Immediate financial relief for autistic children whose families are paying privately for assessments and therapies, proper oversight and an external complaints system for the HSE, and a full review of carer’s allowance and how carers are viewed’ and the ‘reopening of Ennis, Nenagh and St John’s emergency departments’.”

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsmen is a standing Committee of the Houses of the Oireachtas and has 11 Members, seven from the Dáil and four from the Seanad.

The meeting in the Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
