The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will meet on Thursday September 19th on the topic of women and Constitutional change.
The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House between 09:30-12:30.
The following representatives are due to appear;
• Emma DeSouza, Civic Innovation Specialist
• Dr. Ailbhe Smyth, Activist, Campaigner and Strategy Specialist
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Fergus O’Dowd said: “We welcome the opportunity to resume our discussions on the topic of women and constitutional change. The Good Friday Agreement includes a commitment to North-South equivalence on rights as well as the full participation of women in public and political life.”
“Women on our island continue to be underrepresented in public and political life but are more prominent in civil society. We look forward to discussing how to increase participation by women in political and public life and how best to overcome the barriers to participation and engagement.”
