Received questions are submitted to the relevant Department and although the vast majority of questions are accepted, a Minister may seek to transfer a question to another Minister on the basis that it comes within the second Minister’s remit.
This is a matter for the two Ministers in question and the approval of the Member asking the question or the approval of the Ceann Comhairle is not required. The Ceann Comhairle does not become involved in any discussion on the merits of a transfer. However, as a matter of courtesy, the Questions Office notifies the Member in writing of the transfer of oral questions.
