The Committee shadows the Department of Education and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
The Joint Committee plays an important role in informing debate and examining the key issues affecting the education system, from early education right through primary, secondary, further education and training to higher education. It also examines key issues relating to research, innovation and science.
The Select Committee is also responsible for legislation relating to both Departments and has an important role in considering budgetary Estimates for both Departments.
