COMMITTEE OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS debate -
Wednesday, 31 Oct 2012

Business of Committee

This is a special meeting. We will deal solely with the agenda items - the presentation by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions on public sector allowances and the 2011 Appropriation Accounts of the Comptroller and Auditor General: Vote 25 - Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government - Review of Allowances. We have received related correspondence from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. We will deal with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions first, to be followed by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government at approximately 3.30 p.m. The related documents include correspondence dated 12 October 2012 from Ms Geraldine Tallon, Secretary General of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, forwarding details of payments of allowances in that Department; correspondence received on 30 October 2012 from Mr. Tom Geraghty, secretary, public services committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions on the opening statement; and correspondence received on 30 October 2012 from Ms Geraldine Tallon, Secretary General of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government on the opening statement.

We also received correspondence from Deputy Simon Harris who was in contact with me before the meeting to ask if it might be taken at the end because he has been delayed at a referendum launch. We will deal with the correspondence then. It relates to the aid programme and includes a request to discuss the matter with the Accounting Officer at a special meeting. Rather than deal with it now, we will leave it until the end of the meeting when he can make his point.

Is that agreed? Agreed.
