Business of Joint Committee

We are now in public session. Apologies have been received from Senator Buttimer. I thank Deputy Padraig O'Sullivan, who has been discharged from the service of this committee, for all his work with us. We wish him all the best with the Joint Committee on the Irish Language, Gaeltacht and the Irish-speaking Community. I also welcome Deputy Troy, who has been nominated to join the committee in Deputy Padraig O'Sullivan's place.

All those present in the committee room are asked to exercise personal responsibility to protect themselves and others from the risk of contracting Covid-19. The first item is approval of the minutes of the private and public meetings on 28 September and 29 September 2022. They are already approved in a virtual meeting but we must do this for procedural reasons. Is that agreed? Agreed.

I remind members of the constitutional requirement that members must be physically present within the confines of the place Parliament has chosen to sit, namely, Leinster House, in order to participate in public meetings. I will not permit a member to participate where he or she is not adhering to this constitutional requirement. Therefore, any member who attempts to participate from outside the precincts of Leinster House will be asked to leave the meeting.
