To ask the Minister for Local Government whether, in view of the fact that the Local Councils in Ireland have been elected on the Proportional Representation basis, there is any provision made by which the said basis of Representation is to be maintained in case of co-option to vacancies on those Councils.

There is at present no provision specifically requiring co-option to vacancies in Local Councils to be according to the principle of Proportional Representation.
