Vol. 1 No. 29

ESTIMATES. - LOCAL TAXATION ADJUSTMENT.

The Estimate for this is £219,834. I move that.

I should like to ask if this money will be reimbursed later by the British Government, or any part of it.

Perhaps I should have explained when we took over the debt there was a certain sum in the local taxation account, and it had not been discharged by the British Government in payment of awards and decrees, and so on, and we entered into possession of it. It was a sum of two or three thousand pounds. Now out of that sum certain advances were made in respect of local authorities, that is the other matter that I mentioned— £264,000. Some of that was expended. It is to regularise that we are putting up this Vote. The British Government have discharged their liability so far as this is concerned, and we will not have to repay any of this money at all to them.

Motion made and question put: "That the Dáil in Committee, having considered the Estimates for Local Taxation Adjustment in 1922-23, and having passed a Vote on Account of £219,834 for the period to the 6th December, 1922, recommend that the full Estimate of £219,834 for the Financial Year 1922, 23, be adopted in due course by the Oireachtas."

Agreed.
