CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - CONNEMARA MARBLE DEPOSIT.

To ask the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received a report from H. J. Seymour, B.Sc., F.G.S., Professor of Geology in University College, Dublin, concerning a very valuable deposit of Connemara marble in the townland of Cloonacarton, near Recess, as well as other valuable mineral deposits in the same district, and whether he has taken, or will take, any steps to bring to the notice of mining engineers, building contractors, and others concerned the facts disclosed in Professor Seymour's report, with a view to having quarries opened in the district.

A copy of a report by Professor Seymour on a deposit of Connemara marble in the townland of Cloonacarton has been furnished to me by the lessee of the mineral rights. The lessee had previously been in communication with the Irish Consul in New York to ascertain whether any firms in America, which had previously taken supplies of this marble, would be interested in the development of the property. These inquiries in America will be pursued, and I will be glad to give any other persons interested the information that is available.
