Vol. 2 No. 40

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - SALARIES OF SECONDARY TEACHERS.

To ask the Minister for Education whether in view of his repeated admissions that the salaries paid to lay secondary teachers cannot be regarded as adequate remuneration for the valuable services they perform, he has taken any step towards the provision of an adequate interim grant to be utilised in supplementing the incomes of these teachers.

Arrangements in this matter are at present under consideration, and the provision made by way of interim grant will be published in the Estimates for the coming year. That is to say, if it is by way of an interim grant.
