Vol. 3 No. 1

[ WRITTEN ANSWERS. ] - ALLEGED ILL-TREATMENT OF PRISONER.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has received a complaint that Michael Glynn, Baltinglass, arrested on March 4th, was ill-treated by troops after arrest, that his person can show the injuries received, that he had taken no part in politics; and to ask the Minister to state the cause for this man's arrest, and whether he can now be released?

Glynn was not ill-treated by troops who had charge of him, but he was, I regret to say, beaten by an officer who was labouring under excitement, consequent on recognising Glynn as one who had connection with an ambush in which he and others were wounded and four men were killed. His release is not recommended.
